Mother’s Day, North Rim, Grand Canyon

Mother’s Day, North Rim, Grand Canyon
Watercolor 15″ x 20″ $650

The North Rim of Grand Canyon is a different place altogether from the South Rim. The South teems with a vast world of people—literally so—the variety languages you hear is flat-out crazy! And it’s marvelous that Grand Canyon is loved by people from every corner of the world. But here on the North side is a world of quiet and peace where wildlife are not shy. There is a herd of bison who are often seen in the meadows. They are always a big thrill for visitors—too big, sometimes—I see people doing dumb stuff, like try to walk up to a placid-looking beast and pet it! Not a good idea, especially in a scene like this. Looks charming and peaceful, these buffalo mamas and calves ambling along in the sun. But you better keep your distance—these moms are up there with Mama Bear when it comes to protecting their young!
