Dawn in Auckland
Watercolor, 12” x 16”, $550
I have a good excuse for going to New Zealand: my son-in-law comes from there, and occasional family visits are de rigueur. Last trip I stayed across Waitemata Harbour from “CBD”, local parlance for the downtown area (stands for Central Business District), five minutes’ walk from the ferry dock in the charming suburb of Devonport. Being sort of an early bird, I was up before dawn every day and down at the dock in time to watch the sunrise. It didn’t look like this every day—more often it was grey and misty (explains why New Zealand is so green!)—but there were a few mornings like this one, where brilliant morning colors put Auckland’s stunning city skyline on full display.
